Four Decades of Service

A Heritage Built on Precision, Care & Community

A heritage built on precision, care, and community across Coffs Harbour for over four decades.

Greg Luke’s been fitting glasses and looking after eyes in Coffs Harbour for more than forty years now. He’s known locally as a familiar, friendly face — someone patients feel genuinely comfortable talking to — as much as he’s known for his thorough, patient-first approach to clinical care and his real love of spectacle making, the hands-on craft of it.

He’s seen the whole industry change around him — from grinding and edging lenses by hand to the digital diagnostics and lens tech we use today. But what hasn’t changed is how he works: take the time, get it right, and treat every patient like part of the community he’s spent decades caring for.

Optical Craftsmanship Behind the Scenes

Beyond traditional eye examinations, Greg has always held a deep interest in optical workshop craftsmanship—the intricate art of shaping, edging, fitting, and adjusting spectacle lenses to suit unique facial structures and complex visual needs.

Medioptics History

The Original Medioptics Chapter (1980s – 2020)

A historical view of Greg Luke’s leadership in founding and operating the original Medioptics practice before its transition in 2020.

For decades, local families associated Greg Luke with the original Medioptics practice in Coffs Harbour. Under Greg’s ownership, Medioptics grew into a cornerstone of regional optometry, serving generations of Coffs Coast residents with dedicated eye care and custom eyewear solutions.

In 2020, after more than thirty years at the helm, Greg made the decision to sell the Medioptics practice. Medioptics has since been acquired by National Optical Care, which itself was acquired by George & Matilda Eyecare in 2024 — so the practice now operates as part of a national corporate group. Greg's professional connection to the business ended with its sale in 2020, paving the way for his current chapter of collaborative craftsmanship.

Note: Lens Lounge Eyecare does not hold or have access to patient records from Medioptics. For historical records from that business, please contact Medioptics directly.

Behind the Scenes

Still Hands-On, Just Not Behind the Chair

Greg's retired from clinical practice these days, but he hasn't fully put the tools down. He still lends a hand at Lens Lounge with the workshop side — shaping and edging lenses, fitting them to frames, getting the small adjustments right so a pair of glasses actually feels good to wear. It's the part of the job he always enjoyed most, and he's jumped back into the game to help Chloe and keep that same family care going.

By combining Greg’s decades of benchwork experience with Chloe’s modern clinical approach and boutique frame curation, Lens Lounge Eyecare delivers a rare blend of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary eye care.
